It’s always interesting to watch a film about BDSM, you can always tell if the people involved are kinky or not. This one is a bit confusing tho, it tackles a little about aftercare, the initial awkwardness and acceptance of one’s own desires, making it a bit realistic, but then all that is thrown into this very specific scenario that makes the film itself a fantasy.

Usually, B movies are funny and (positively) ridiculous, and that’s all there is. I couldn’t say the same for O Velho e a Espada, it has such a strong premise and development that at its core, it’s what blockbuster fantasies are made of. Incredibly rich in references and yet so innovative, the passion leaks through the screen.
Antonio da Luz, who plays the titular old man, has never acted before yet he is so charismatic that I can’t possibly imagine anyone else in this role. May he rest in peace.
