Hadn’t watched this in a while. Erin had never seen it. She loved it, and I came to love it even more. I do think the Twilight Zone-esque effects, transitions, and interstitials detract half a star. Other than that, I continue to consider this an absolute masterpiece.

Also, THIS MOVIE ONLY COST 700k?!?!? How?!?!? Amazingly well-executed and inventive filmmaking on a budget. I adore this movie.

Wow. This movie is genuinely terrifying. It should be getting more attention, but the fact that it’s not is also terrifying. This is not the type of true story we can become numb to. This is what actual horror looks like.

Truly incredible filmmaking from top to bottom, with special acting kudos to Smollett, Law, Sheridan, Oliver, and Hoult.

I will be both very surprised and very sad if this doesn’t gain a cult following pretty quickly. I’m putting it in the upper echelon of my most respected crime films.

This is probably more of a 3.25 bordering on a 3 for me, which is sad.

Sophie Thatcher is easily one of my favorite actors. She is excellent in this (and everything else). The rest of the cast is also stacked with people that are both very compelling in general, and that give good-to-great performances in this movie. The problem is that the plot is both so paint-by-numbers and so surface-grazing in its attempts at articulating its themes.

This could have been a great film, even an exceptional one. I’m not mad at it for just being good. I’m just…disappointed.
