  What an utter bore. Never underestimate the appeal of a meandering piece of white cishet upper class navel gazing I guess, since this was the 9th highest grossing film of 1981. Alda is no stylist, and he leaves his actors stranded, most giving sitcom level performances and the initial scenes of forced group jocularity are just mental. Sandy Dennis is the only one giving a performance worth watching and she spins gold from dross. Sheesh.

  "Bottoms" feels like the raunchier, queerer feminist counterpart to "Barbie" (with only a fraction of its audience), with a silly Gen Z John Hughes sensibility (including the Illinois setting). It pulls fewer punches, literally.
