  Stunning and subtly thought-provoking, and I would expect no less from a maker of perfect films. That said, the ceramics processes in Showing Up are so unrealistic that it completely took me out of the experience. The discrepancies are distracting for anyone who actually works with clay. I recognize the ceramics consultants listed in the credits and I love their work, but they really let you down on this film, Kelly.

  Where are the foam supports? Where’s the plastic wrap?…

  This film has earned one star because it was successful in transporting me to—and trapping me within—an alternate reality in which a film this terribly and mind-numbingly written can have such sweeping critical acclaim.
