  A disproportionate amount of sexual violence towards women and children for the sake of making a political statement that could have been made 1,000 other ways and so much more tactfully. 

  You can say a million times that this movie was made to be a political statement against censorship laws, but when your only other film is a directors compilation of different ways to die and there’s no evidence of any actual political subtext in this back of the film…

  I saw a lot of people tout this as an incredibly disturbing film that was disgusting and unsettling. I personally agree and disagree. Visually, the film is striking, genuinely one of the most gorgeous films I have ever seen. If you adore psycho-sexual horror that is abstract, obscene, and at some times bizarre then you'll love Belladonna of Sadness. Just. Wear headphones when you watch it. :)
