  keeping it subtle is a art that is very rarely seen done perfectly. Ponman came so close to doing that.

  Ponman's arrival marks another entry into the list of films that I consider to be "situational dramas". Films that don't drag on too long, with a core moral in mind and surrounds around events that spring from a singular action and explains the personalities and quirks of the people involved along the way.

  This is like Unda(2019) but on steroids.

  The setting, the characters and some moments are reminescent of the 2019 cop drama. They even have the 3 actors from the film.

  It's an almost run of the mill investigative thriller. Almost because it avoids most of the pitfalls of a generic thriller and delivers on action, comedy and those little, precious moments of triumph which is so so important for such a film.

  Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam is very aptly named. The film is shot and made to make it feel like it's a weird, afternoon dream. A dream that we all had so often.
