This being titled “John Grisham’s The Rainmaker” seems so clunky in present day but I guess there’s a precedent of Coppola doing that.
Weird tone to this, cartoony in a Coen way, then smaltzy, then dramatic.
There’s something there but the script is too easy, the three plot lines are so amateur in how cut and dry, good vs evil they are.
The juxtaposition of an abused wife killing her husband followed by DeVito rolling around on a hospital front…

Knowing that Affleck was originally cast in Adam Drivers role is interesting. It could work but the roles are perfect as is. Affleck being a charming bully works so much better than him being a quiet intellectual.
Damon is the least subtle with his changes story to story but still manages to keep it wrangled.
