As far as duo’s go, these two are damn-near adorable, and they got jokes taboot. I wish all westerns were this level of silly with song breaks by Burt Bacharach. Newman and Redford are peak buds here and exactly the kind of outlaws I don’t mind rooting for.

Culkin does his best Holden Caulfield impression in this early 2000’s indie gem with a stacked cast, but somewhat bleak atmosphere. Igby Goes Down doesn’t hit as hard as it used if only because I’ve grown up enough to see a spoiled over-privileged brat, but that doesn’t change the fact that our title character still goes through the ringer a bit in this tale of wealthy teen rebellion. Soundtrack is still aces with a lot of bangers that would shape my indie rock taste for years to come.

Watched with Linklater’s 2006 Criterion commentary which is goddamn perfect, full of fantastic tidbits about the entire filmmaking process as well as his joys and anguish growing up in Texas, while still giving ample credit to everyone involved and how much of this film was a collaborative process.

I first saw Dazed and Confused in sixth grade at summer camp, and it’s always stuck with me. What an absolute banger! If only it’d prepared me a bit better for the slings of high school. Alas, ya just gotta keep on livin’.
