Boy, that was rough. The part that disappointed me the most was the rape scene and overall misogyny. It didn't feel ironic and didn't add to the film's fun. One second, I was laughing at a stupid Shakespeare joke. The next, I was horrified as a woman was getting assaulted. Why??

While not sophisticated, Halloween Ends was a lot of fun with the right expectations. And honestly, I could have watched Jaimie Lee Curtis making faces for the whole runtime and been thoroughly entertained.

David Lynch is the the king of the uncanny valley and in Blue Velvet, he remains true to form. Exploring themes of sex, violence, shame, and pride, this work unveils the dark underbelly of Lumberton, the "idyllic" suburban town. Like most Lynchian tales, Blue Velvet is easy to feel strongly about but hard to pin down: It will leave you thinking for days.

    Night of the Living Dead

While this film was far too slow by today's standards, it was a surprisingly comprehensive first take on the societal reaction that might arise from a Zombie outbreak. And despite an underdeveloped representation of women (primarily through its agency-less depiction of Barbara), it finally delivered a crucially important message about black lynching in the United States. Overall, Night of the Living Dead lived up to its reputation as an essential progenitor of the modern Zombie flick while also shocking me with its powerful message about justice for black Americans.
