Hits all the gothic notes you want it to. Eggers’s signature attention to historic detail endures. Costume design on Orlok was awesome. Willem Dafoe undefeated. Not really a whole lot of profound social commentary going on here but I also don’t think that’s what Eggers was going for
A fun bit of melodrama in a setting that lends itself to melodrama. Settings were somewhat austere. Unfortunately for me I’m somewhat spoiled by The Young Pope, which does a little more with the mystery of the church. Twist ending was poignant and surprisingly believable!

Got to this film because of movie mindset, the podcast that is singlehandedly making me rethink my stance on movies from before 1970.
Loved this movie more than I thought I would. The intrigue and the acting kept me in it the whole time. Can't wait for Sunset Blvd later this week.
A brutally hard watch and worthy of the title of an American epic. I was aware of this film only from the infamous Russian roulette scene, but I did not know it would play such a central role in the film. Cimino excels in crafting long scenes that are visually striking and narratively effective.
The politics of the movie are somewhat opaque, though I suppose that is appropriate for a Vietnam film. One could uncharitably call this a "shoot and…
