Thank God Soderbergh is out there doing consistently great work, without the self-consciousness of his peers, who can't let go of their oeuvre standing as some pillar of cultural history and make films only once every half-decade.
Tight, clever, and sexy. Anyone who's muttered 'they don't make films for adults anymore' will be pleased.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 2019
This movie came out a week before I adopted my black cat Pip. Like Pip, this movie was big and dumb, but also sweet and endearing. They both had a lot of flaws, but they also brought me a lot of warmth. Pip is dead now, and I think Star Wars is too. But they had fun journeys that brought me a lot of joy and delighted me, no matter how frustrating they were at times. Rest in peace, Pip. I loved watching Star Wars with you late at night on the couch with the Christmas lights on.
