Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 2023
It throws SO much up into the air that I spent the first half of the film doubting it could possibly catch it all and weave it into something satisfying - and it does and does not, because it cheats with the *spoiler* “to be continued” ending which liberates it from having to be satisfying narratively. Don’t get me wrong, that it achieves all it achieves script-wise (not to mention the insanely gorgeous animation) is impressive, standing out as something…

Whiplash 2014
Such a good film. I love the way Fletcher as a character is built up and once we see J.K. Simmons in action we as the audience are also caught up in their intensity. How this was shot and what makes it so technically impressive is for better minds than me. Cinema.

Challengers 2024
Immaculately scored, insanely sexy, gripping… it’s cinema. You could almost jump out your seat in the film’s final moments. Sure, the score can sometimes overwhelm but that’s a quibble. I was hooked and even though I’ve seen the film I’m somehow still hooked. Luca Guadagnino should take several bows, he really cooked with this one.

It is shocking to see the ignorance of how Chol Soo Lee is treated through the ignorance of the American justice system. The film, however, lacks an emotional connection…
