The set design and costumes are so cool. I'd expected a bit more cheese out of this but was surprised that I essentially got Ridley Scott's Prometheus instead.

Reading more about the troubled production behind this makes me sympathize with it much more. Changing from a horror-comedy to straight horror mid-production would produce pacing and story issues in any movie, and the fact that this still retains some effectively horrific scenes, gore gags, and the occasional laugh out loud moment (whether intentional or not) is extremely impressive. Also extra points for that incredibly bleak ending.

I've gotta say for a three hour movie this thing moves like a fucking truck. That is, up until the success of the Trinity test, after which the thrill of chasing "what can we do" is abruptly and chillingly replaced with "what have we done?" An achievement on every level for Nolan, Hoytema, Göransson, the cast (especially happy to see Macon Blair), and everyone else who brought the complicated story of Robert Oppenheimer to the screen in a big way.
