  To me, this feels like being presented with candy after the charred, once-frozen meal that is X. I appreciate the conventions of the parallel introductions and the period accurate credits, but it’s a bit of a hat on a hat, isn’t it? Pearl doesn’t really serve to explain anything other than “it’s kinda like the first one.” It expands on very little and justifies even less. Structurally it feels incredibly lopsided.   While I understand the problems people have with it, X feels the most committed to its genre out of the trilogy. That is, I don’t think it’s trying to say anything about its subject matter, at least not in the way that the ‘film community’ has surmised. It kinda just feels like someone saw The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and thought, “that looks fun. I’m gonna do that.” and then tied two separate scripts into it.
