On my first watch I was enthralled by the look and sound of this film as Kubrick went to great lengths to transport the viewer to 18th century England. Cries and Whispers 1972
I could not stop crying watching this movie. Bergman cut through to me again with this one. Cancer, sex, religion, suicide, suffering, and love; all the classic Bergman tropes, but without feeling like he’s rehashing old ideas. Again trying to describe in words the experience of watching this film is almost impossible. Don’t watch this if you’re in a good mood because you won’t be after seeing this.
