The first 40 minutes of this movie are pretty mid. The title card drops and the action gets barbaric, which is a cool shtick for like 20 minutes. I like action movies on a train because the space is really well defined and linear and my monkey brain can handle it. I’m thinking like snowpiercer, bullet train, train to Busan. There’s not any of that sense of place here so instead the train just keeps the camera uncomfortably close to the action. The action isn’t bad but it’s done much better in other similar action movies.
The perfect movie to watch with your mom or grandma around Thanksgiving, they knew what they were doing. Has the "built by A/B test" blockbuster flavor of an MCU movie. Ariana Grande carried. A bit too long but then again I've made Lindsay watch Chalamet hallucinate in the desert for like a total of like 6 hours. I get why this is not very many people’s favorite Coen movie, but it is definitely worth a watch if you like their other stuff. Encapsulates that anxious dreadful feeling you have when you feel like your life is unraveling. So not really a fun watch, but an engaging one. Really angled towards the Jewish American experience, WASPs beware. The real message and culmination of this movie feels above my pay grade. I’m going to need a 40 minute YouTube…
