Impeccable performances by both Garfield and Pugh, who each carried the brevity of the story so flawlessly. However, I feel that the vignettes/flash backs seemed to disrupt the emotional impact of the narrative. Just as you’d feel immersed in a pathos-driven scene, it would cut to something else. I also wasn’t sure about the choice of making the cooking competition as part of the climax of the story, as it felt like it became more of Almut’s story and less of the journey of the couple. Stunning costume and set design and lovely score.
I cried during defying gravity so that’s telling! Erivo and Grande’s vocals and acting performances lived up to my theatre kid expectations (and someone who has seen the stage musical 3 times).
Highlight was dancing through life- genuinely wanted to join Jonathan Bailey in that library
Iconic, inspired and bursting with energy. The farcical humour and slapstick elements help this avoid coming across as dated. My Year 10 class didn’t enjoy this as much as I did.
