A lovely simple film that displays how differently everyone can feel the same trauma and how those that feel deeply can often be frozen by those feelings. Just like the piano lessons taken together, Benji still remembers meaning he can play piano. But on the other hand remembering/feeling/ruminating on things can also be paralyzing.

Now Benji becomes one of the “craziest people” you meet at airports.

Men can’t be in groups, they start nonsense like churches then you’ve got clown guards outside these giant cathedrals & men in dresses while they rail against the LGBTQIA community. The acting was great, reminds me of the New Pope on HBO. Love the quote about God seemingly mistakenly giving women eyes and ears since they’re supposed to be “silent” in the church.

I love the idea that not getting a promotion at work means you’re such a loser, like the perfect target is a man not invested in climbing the corporate ladder, he’s interested and falling down baggage chutes.

    I don’t know why but…

Classic Eggers, this time scrambled. You get a little of both, the wide open traveling, sprawling sets of the forest, castle and sea and as the movie progresses you are closed into the city with a few sets and rooms, feeling claustrophobic with the rats & the plaguies. Eggers drop kicked the mise en scene into another dimension. Lighting is stupendous, especially the use of moonlight and snow.

Another Skarsgard-Eggers team up for the win.
    Defoe plays the sweetest…
