Directed by the same Joel Schumacher of Batman & Robin fame...and yet...he was the right man for the job. The story is slightly unhinged, blending horror and romance in a Beauty & The Beast style Stockholm syndrome-esque love setup. But there's enough nuance to make it not quite as creepy. I think? Regardless, Schumacher succeeds in his kind of cooky style to pull off a film version of perhaps the musical with THE BEST music. I can forgive some acting and singing and directing at times not being the best because Weber's music is just so dang beautiful.

    Also, heavy nostalgia watch here.

Really a beautiful, well-produced film with incredible acting, but I just couldn't really like it. An overabundance of sexual content, incredibly 2025 values, and all-around selfishness of Florence Pugh's character was just not jiving with me. There was some redemption at the end...I think? But really, marriage and parenting and family and planning ahead and being an adult were all subtly (or not so subtly) dragged through the mud. In a very well-acted way. Lol.

THE quintessential 70s sci-fi fantasy adventure movie. This has all the right makings of the classic hero's journey and I'm always here for it. The realness of the effects pull you into the movie and make you sense the pervasiveness (though not invincibility) of the Empire, the simple coziness of Aunt Beru's kitchen, the twisted weirdness of the Mos Eisley cantina. It's so easy to understand why movies like this are the birthplace of imagination. Imagine how many adventures await…

Funny, whimsical, and heartfelt. This was my 100th movie watch this year, and I'm not mad about it! I look forward to seeing what else comes out of Tails Waititi's brain. And anything to see more NZ landscapes...
