Every moment of the ham-fisted political satire was utterly horrid - like watching kids play-acting adults, and not in a good way.

The rest of the film which surrounded the politics felt ambling and pointless.
I would have killed for some more story to give the characters some direction.

Pattinson was brilliant as ever, and the production design, along with much of the direction, was very strong.

But it couldn’t save this from being a thoroughly disappointing slog.

Simply perfect, this could easily go to 5 stars on a rewatch.
There is just no way this story could have been told any better.
The choices in how the chronology is displayed are fantastic, and it has some god-tier cinematography throughout.

Infinitely charming, and had a real focus that often feels so sorely lacking from other Wes Anderson films.
Hard to fault, outside of some sightly strange pacing in the first 10-minutes.
As soon as the humans are introduced, this puppy hums.

Part way through, it felt like a film built upon such optimism.
Then a little later - the opposite.
As I sit with it further, neither of these terms feel accurate, and I would instead simply say that it's a film imbued with such empathy.
About the slow encroachment of disaster by forces of ignorance.
It has certainly stuck with me, and will continue to do so for a long while.
