If you’re going to trash the bad ones, you’ve got to give credit where it’s due. Interested to see why Fallout doesn’t satisfy me like this and DRP1. Maybe it’s that this has so little exposition. You’re always playing catchup, but it’s also not all chase scenes.
I think Brad Bird is a better filmmaker than McQuarrie, but he’s made 2 of these better than ghost protocol, which is almost forgettable to me. This is about as good as studio…

Never should’ve tied it back in. “Better than those last couple” is not a saving grace. And someone needs to tell me if this stuff is canonically tied to the holocaust or that was a filmmaking choice I can laugh at. We truly only learn from debasement.
And then right when I really want to trash this movie, they parade January Jones’ décolletage and Zoe Kravitz at you. I’m also fairly certain there’s a mystique-professor x lovers cut that completely…

The things I watch when she’s out of town say a lot. Does this open with a letter from Birmingham? And why did they forget the exposition until post with that awful name text. Movie being set week of March 17, 1998? Means this is an .#anniversary watch. Dafoe plays an absolute serial killer. Maybe the original script is a masterpiece but the Final Cut is afraid of its best parts. Apolitical shootemup slop.

Strange Days 1995
There’s a lot of good here — the first act is fun and sexy, every actor is a future star — but hard to fall in love with this one. Slow in the wrong places and 30 minutes too long. There’s an under-2 hour cut that’s probably better and has all the politics and none of the glut, but love how committed Bigelow was to going for it here. Let her make another movie with no c*ps in it.
