Terrible film on every level. I think it might be Clint Eastwood’s worst film. And one of Burt Reynolds’ weakest films too, which is saying a lot! I haven’t been this disappointed by an in their prime star pairing since Mike Nichols’ dreadful “The Fortune” with Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty. Even the action scenes were bad. The lone bright spot in the film is Irene Cara, who single-handedly kept me from giving this one star.

Ocean's Eleven 1960
Colossal disappointment considering the great premise and cool cast. I wasn’t expecting “Heat” or “The Asphalt Jungle” but definitely didn’t think the film would be this dull. Only in the last twenty minutes or so does it really come to life (ironically at a funeral), but by then I had largely checked out.

The Alamo 1960
Wayne's longstanding passion project is a long, bloated, jingoist epic that ignores much of the complexity (and history) of the actual event. Full of ridiculous speechifying and groan inducing comic moments. Strong production values, good action scenes, a memorable Dimitri Tiomkin score, and first-rate cast help make it watchable. This has long been one of my guilty cinematic pleasures.

Heroes of the Alamo 1937
Low budget garbage about the 1836 siege of the Texas mission, full of wooden acting, simplistic politics and silly racial stereotypes. Say what you will about John Wayne’s 1960 version, at least that felt like a professional film full of professional, talented (if miscast) actors. The best way to describe this travesty is to imagine if the much ridiculed independent filmmaker Coleman Francis directed an Alamo film. This is what it would look like.
