I fell asleep about halfway through, but I saw enough to know that this is one of the least interesting movies I’ve ever seen. Robert De Niro is kind of fun in his dual roles, but the novelty wears out pretty quick. A real chore.

Lots of people want to say this movie is “both-sides-ing.” That it dodges any touchy politics by saying “they’re both just as bad.”
But I think this movie is actually as careful not to do that as it is to avoid calling out one group of Americans versus another.
It’s true that the words “Republican” and “Democrat” are never said aloud in the movie, but that doesn’t mean that Alex Garland is making a moral equivalence. He’s not tying morality…
