A scroll of poetic piss-taking read by Parisian cafés' finest jester. Fueled by Marxistentialist anguish, JLG swerves through class conflict, perversion, avarice, highbrow ref., blasphemy, cannibalism and other banalities. Some set pieces run the gag to redundancy, some mystify both the viewer and the film of its own philosophy or lack thereof. Alas, carnivalesque shitshow may be the necessary evil to modern futility

Worship flicks give a whiff of intellectual famine and Pavlovian moralism. Despite his unsteady hand, Bresson's first bat doesn't sermon the audience to celibacy but runs its bases of sacred and profane with nuance. Whether its the messianic Anne-Marie's motives or the damsel in distress', whatever summations we may draw to satiate ourselves are less pieces of some puzzle than they are the pure divinity of pathos.

Preliminary studies of this sewer find indicated "so bad it's good". My autopsy bore more alarming results. I'm afraid what we have here is a severe case of "so bland it sluggishly spaghettifies your neurons into cryogenic slumber". My hazmat suit was at the laundry and so the bug got to me. Surprisingly, I slipped out of videodromic coma in time to FINALLY see a C.H.U.D. after much anticipation. I'd rather I hadn't.

This vérité melding of matter-of-fact with fiction lends itself to a tone that aptly transcends the illusion of truth. Rouch's oddity serves as an effective vignette of this proto-postmodern cult's rituals. Whilst to Western gazers such an artefact divulges the Dark Continent's d(er)angerousness, to the Hauka it conjures a meta-magical emancipation. They are possessed by the maîtres and equally in possession of them.
