I know enough about cinema to know that Barbie Swan Lake is it
(I pretty much rank everything highly. having fun is my main criteria)
man the end credit sequence alone just edges out the first one. dare I say I liked it better overall? I think I do dare. going into these films I thought they’d be everything I hate most about similar staples of the genre but I’ve enjoyed the ride immensely, this one had some really funny moments and the relationship between the two leads feels really genuine, it’s the cherry on top of the cake. I was familiar with some of the more iconic jokes but watching my friends witness them for the first time in the movie was a real treat too
this movie was way better than I expected it to be when I first watched it and it holds up even on rewatch. just really funny tbh
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I think I enjoyed this overall more than the first movie although the absence of Matthew Lillard was definitely noticed. Another strong cast and I think the movie was strengthened by its ability to dive even further into the meta commentary given the reception of its predecessor.
babygirl derek you deserved so much better :((
also library brothers you were icons you were legends and you were the moment
Harvey a bit too obsessed with the muscle mass of the male characters
also also finally watched the movie my damn username is from
I am genuinely quite annoyed at just how much I loved this movie. this movie felt like it understood the role of the songs in a musical - when a character has too many emotions to talk, they sing, and the song sequences felt really well planned around this, with some gorgeous cinematic sequences to boot!
what I honestly expected to be an annoying gimmick - Robbie Williams as a chimpanzee - instead just. worked so well. and I’m really…
