If it wasn’t for the last 10 minutes, this might have been my favorite Argento. No doubt cracks the top 3.

Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers 1980
Film #43 from the National Film Registry
The first recorded strike was by the Egyptians because their garlic rations didn’t show up on time.
Shows different migrant cultures in Northern California using garlic in dishes while their native music plays in the background. Garlic is for everyone.

The Color of Friendship 2000
Disney Channel’s answer to racism through the lens of South African apartheid. Script makes references to the KGB targeting citizens, capitalism being the ultimate big bad, and the police brutality towards South African anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko. Big themes for a kids movie that also features a lot of ethic slurs (two n-word drops by children). Overall, an incredibly important DCOM that deserves a revisit in adulthood.
