Terrence Malick first collaborated with Emmanuel Lubezki on The New World and the result is nothing short of transcendent. The camera is its own character and appears to be searching for a greater meaning beyond the story, yet doesn’t really distract from what’s on screen.
James Horner’s score when Pocahontas and John Smith are on screen add a layer of nostalgia that’s carries their story.
Definitely the most underrated Terrence Malick film.
