Rouge 1987
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
We usually believe that the only true resistance against the ever-changing material world is love. Yet, neither of them here is perennial. A promise of love is often treated as a trade contract, akin to an exchange of stock bonds. Hong Kong is so volatile, a pendulum swinging between cultures. Could this film's sad perspective stem from this ambiguous and sometimes indecisive reality? I don't recall what they drink at the brothel, but now they drink Coke.
