  It's actually not bad.

  Gal Gadot is bad. The dwarves are abominable. The songs are largely mediocre. However, despite its flaws, Snow White succeeds in doing something the recent slate of "Disney live action re-do of beloved previously successful animated films" has routinely failed to; it tells a decent story and is nice to look at. Oh, and Rachel Zegler is a top tier talent who single-handedly rescues what could have otherwise been a real slog.

  My initial reaction to this film was it's Verhoeven doing the teen coming of age genre. That's at least how the film starts and how it was sold, but by the end the viewer is left with a complex and difficult look at masculinity and male identity.

  I've read a number of reviews on this site that compared Spetters to Showgirls, noting that they were similar thematically and in their use of melodrama. This couldn't be further from the truth.…
