I feel this movie doesn’t know what it wants to be. The relationship between the Black and Jewish communities is a really interesting topic, but providing meaningful insight on it while simultaneously being a romcom is a very tight rope to walk and to me this film missed the mark.
The commentary felt too overbearing. 2nd-hand cringe can be funny, but the film relied too much on these moments. Also, there was a huge lack of chemistry between Jonah and Lauren.
There were funny moments throughout, but as a whole this film didn’t live up to its potential.
