    This film deserved its Oscar win for best sound. The everpresent background noise of the camp added so much depth/context to each scene. Often I found myself tuning out from the actual dialog to focus on it. As for the cinematography, it was fantastic as well. I’m a sucker for wides, and these were composed gorgeously. The juxtaposition of these shots of their beautiful home with the sounds of gunfire and screams behind the fence gave me a welcomed feeling…

    I feel this movie doesn’t know what it wants to be. The relationship between the Black and Jewish communities is a really interesting topic, but providing meaningful insight on it while simultaneously being a romcom is a very tight rope to walk and to me this film missed the mark.

    The commentary felt too overbearing. 2nd-hand cringe can be funny, but the film relied too much on these moments. Also, there was a huge lack of chemistry between Jonah and Lauren.

    There were funny moments throughout, but as a whole this film didn’t live up to its potential.

    Wild/interesting premise. All the characters dry/monotone delivery and chill/passive acceptance with this insane reality makes this film so damn eerie. I like how it’s implied that the whole world is this dystopic tyranny based on romance, however we remain locked with a few characters and a few settings. the choice to not go for heavy exposition is in a weird way makes world building much more realistic/interesting. I watched this off the heels of Valentine’s Day, so it made me reflect…
