The Insider 1999
The first hour or so is totally gripping. Tension subsides as Russell Crowe’s character fades into the background, and the narrative shifts to the interworkings of CBS News.
The two leads are phenomenal, and the many other figures portrayed in the film—lawyers, newsmen, newspaper men, executives—are well characterized by a cast of character actors.
The “wailing woman” score feels out of place.
Frankly the film could lose about 20 mins— especially in the last third— and would be stronger for it. …
