Someone posted the entire movie on Twitter so obviously had to watch it as soon as I saw it. It’s all comfort and cuteness; had to fight the urge to pick up my Switch to play! No one else could make a slice-of-life, coming-of-age, cave exploration, alien encounter, girlhood dramedy about animals living in a small village! Missed my babies Timmy and Tommy though :(

Coming-of-age is a precious, tumultuous and truly embarrassing time to be alive. I’d rather not be reminded of a time where I felt just as lost and unsure so I steer away from movies with this theme, hence why it took me so long to watch this. Love Lady Bird’s spirit in the cringe and bore of it all, but it’s also not really cringe or boring at all? Universal is the yearning to be liked by your mother, and the impulse to criticise and lecture your daughter into protection from harm, to be the “best version” of themselves.

The last movie I’ll watch for this Oscars run pre-ceremony considering the only nominated movie I watched the whole of 2024 was Timmy’s other movie, Dune part 2, back in *checks* JULY(!!) And now I’m exhausted. Caveat: I do not know much about this man’s life or legacy really. But Chalamet channelled major BD energy (stands for Bob Dylan please!) in his SAG award acceptance speech about pursuing greatness.
