Wow! Its like Dazed and Confused was written by Joss Weadon and then directed by David Cronenberg (not really fair to say, because it has it’s own unique energy, Im just trying to find reference points) with a cast full of every hot young actor you wanted to bone from 90’s tv and movies.
The gen x nihilist yet upbeat tone and late 90’s rave inspired futurism blends into a surreal ironic and self aware commentary on it’s age of youth…
Shockingly good, my new favourite noir film outside of the Bogart classics.
What a character. The way he wise guy monologues to himself the whole time, he puts a fresh spin on a very classic character type.
The mystery comes together cleanly, and is easy to follow- something I can’t say for even my favourite noir’s like To Have and Have Not.
Not as enthralling as it was to me as a teenager, but still distinctive and exciting enough to enjoy a lot.
The queazy diagonal angled hand camera and constant switching to black and white is quite irritating, but also so of it’s time that it has a certain 90’s gonzo charm.
