Burned Bridges 1975
In my opinion Verbrande Brug is an overlooked and underappreciated movie. It has a very strong cast, a compelling though depressing story, superb locations and settings, and overall great cinematography. Being almost 50 years old, this movie unintentionally feels like a time capsule, not only in it’s setting but also in it’s themes.

Seventh Heaven 1993
Despite being fond of Urbanus’ work, this movie didn’t resonate with me. I’m glad I saw it and got some enjoyment out of it, but it suffers from a weak and absurd plot. It felt like the director and script writers wanted to take the movie in a different direction every 30 minutes. A let down to me, having had it in my watch-list for a long time.

Golden Ophelia 1974
Definitely one of the more interesting Belgian 70’s movies, which tackles unconventional themes for the timeperiod such as suicide, the meaning of life, or how ignorant and cold a modern society can feel. The movie also serves as an interesting critique on bureaucratic systems, especially in it’s ending. Due to the cinematography and plot the movie feels avant-garde, which can convey strange feelings while watching. That’s why the short run-time of the film is in it’s favor. Worth a watch, but not highly recommendable to the average viewer!
