  what a strange film to make in 2016.

  why would you make a rose-tinted, male-perspective only depiction of benign skirt-chasing on campus at a time when US college rape culture has become a massive media story and subject of national debate?

  why would you make a movie with a cheap-looking "lol remember the 80s" aesthetic when post-Mad Men, incredibly slick-looking and reflective 20th century period dramas have largely swept away that kind of boring trash?

  this is misogynistic and creepy as hell and I felt sick watching it. there are MULTIPLE scenes of attempted rape and domestic violence. the whole fucking premise of the film is a misogynist trope. I read several reviews and not a single one mentioned this at all 🤔
