As a tentative rule I do not believe in remakes. I am weary of Wonka, Jon Favreau and Evil Deads ad nauseum. I do believe in intertextuality and the satisfaction of invoking a familiarity amongst the exciting and new. Eggersβ Nosferatu is so aware of itself, so aware of the cinematic tradition it grows from that it is not so much a remake but a tribute, an elaboration and a new spark in a constellation of gothic cinema.Β
