Ring 1998
I had to begin Hot Ring Spring with this one. I know the TV movie was first, and believe me I’ll watch it, but I simply adore Ringu ‘98 from head to toe and had been eagerly anticipating watching it again. It’s full of dread, texture, and analog terror goodness, and I’ll never get sick of it. One of the rare instances where I never want to know how they did the effect, because I curl up into a ball every time.

I really loved this. The craft from everyone—from acting, to costumes, to sound design—was impeccable. Nicholas Hoult has become one of my favorite working actors (and as someone who also made a nearly-fatal, poor career choice for a better future with the love of his life, I relate heavily to Thomas), but everyone really is grand in this (I don’t enjoy seeing Depp’s performance being memed . . . she is captivating).
