It’s hard to hate on a movie that got me hooked on Hell Boy in the first place. But as I’ve gone through the story line of Hell Boy twice in its original media, it’s always good to revisit it in other adaptations. So I’m going to be a non biased critic this time through.

Guillermo Del Torro absolutely nails the darkness of the Hell Boy world. I think this movie is also almost perfectly cast, as well. For 2004…

When I first saw this trailer, I already knew it was going to be for me. I thought it would be one of those slow paced relationship building movies that by the end felt like a massive payoff for the journey. Watched this as a suggestion about movies about the IRA. The IRA definitely took a back seat role to the odd relationship between Fergus and Dil. Had no clue before I watched that Dil won an academy award for his performance, much deserved if I say so myself. Also weird seeing a young fat Forest Whittaker, his role was vital to the plot but strange seeing him cast into it. Can see the hype from other critics, definitely makes you think about topics not normally thought about, but wasn’t exactly what I was searching for. Surprise dong shot threw me off too.

Might be one of the most engrossing and heartfelt movies I’ve seen in my life. Rarely does a movie captivate one’s attention from the start to very end. Beautiful and simplistic animation that takes you on a whimsical journey through tragedy and overcoming it. The music/sound effects were top notch and really make you feel immersed in the flow of the story. This shoots up to an instant classic for me for animated movies, and I love some animated movies.
