Deceptively simple yet profoundly moving, FLOW shows just how powerful animation can be without uttering a single word. Reminded me a lot of the first half of WALL-E. How visual storytelling can evoke such strong emotions more effectively than dialogue ever could. And the whole thing flies by. In what appears to be a thinly veiled tale on the dangers of AI filtered through Netflix’s dumbed down formula, THE ELECTRIC STATE tries and quickly fails to be an Amblin knockoff. It’s an expensive misfire that mistakes nostalgia for substance. There’s just no nuance - every scene filled with characters restating the obvious. Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt deliver performances so devoid of spark you'd question their star power entirely.
