Shithouse 2020
Starts as an awkward, college set Before Sunrise-esque rom com, that then switches gears mid film to become a little more heartfelt and a lot more interesting
Amy Landecker, in a small part as Alex’s loving yet overprotective mom, reaffirms her status as one of my favorite actresses working right now. From Transparent to Handmaids Tale to Minx to this, she’s always distinctive and always enjoyableTranslated from by -

“Is this something to do with your lady business”
Quite a ride. I feel like I have nothing new to say so I’ll just say I’ll be thinking about this one for quite some time, the cinematography and production design is first class, and it was a horrifying joy to watch Demi Moore’s performance get more and more exciting the more Sue was “stealing” from Elisabeth. Looking forward to rewatching this one again and again

Lionel Barrymore’s “reformer” Davidson would alongside current day religious charlatans like Joel Osteen quite nicely.
An exciting production of the oft adapted W Somerset Maugham story “Rain”. Made especially so by Barrymore and Swanson. Great to see their earlier work particularly when we have their more recognizable later performances to compare it to.
