A truly classic situation that people found themselves in at the time.

Hard to Be a God 2013
An aesthetic theory enjoyer’s playground. Mud, guts, rain, and innards ASMR. Exceptionally filmed and existentially brutal.

Who Saw Her Die? 1972
The whodunnit aspect of this film is flat; the elements of the plot don’t really hang together and all of the sub narratives were really distracting (ex. the ex-spouse bit was entirely unnecessary). I think this has a lot to do with the writing being so emotionally void, but I wasn’t really feeling the thrust behind the father’s drive to find the killer. The theme song is pretty unbearable as well.

A Lizard in a Woman's Skin 1971
Psychoanalysis and style are at the forefront of this whodunnit. The film is punctuated by a variety of sweeping locations and big architecture that dwarf the characters and heighten the sense of the unknown. The experimental parts of the film (the ones portraying dreams or other psychological torment) are some of the strongest moments of Fulci’s work. They must have made tons of squeaky doors around England audition for this film before deciding which ones would make the final cut, and Inspector Corvin’s (Stanley Baker) whistling is almost unbearable. Soundtrack had classic hot-girl energy, an absolute 10/10 for the king Ennio Morricone.
