this is genuinely one of my favorite comic book movies ever. i still have a really special place in my heart for it. but watching this again and re-reading “the dark knight returns” made me realize that there wasn’t a point where frank miller had a grip on reality until he went off the fucking rails and started making “batman hates 9/11” fan fiction or whatever the fuck; he has always been batshit insane (pun intended).
