Things I did not expect from this movie:
- A drifting montage
- Witness protection subplot (Gru is a narc fr)
- Weirdly good, almost video game animation
- A Fantastic Four/Incredibles subplot
- Oddly realistic depictions of urban and old-money suburban neighborhoods
- A "honey badger don't care" reference
- A heist subplot (funny enough)
- Challengers subplot??
- Electrocuting the disabled while a Frenchman/supervillain steals your child (almost another Incredibles subplot)
- "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" cover
- Vector flossingBroken-leg-noodle-whipping-a-minion-steed-to-escape-an-old-woman-in-a-militarized-wheelchair out of ten

In a word, it's bad.
Everyone is a caricature instead of a character, both in their behavior and their appearance. I'm not saying the original was groundbreaking or hyper realistic, but at least Gru didn't feel like a random cliche generator.
