I had a great time watching this for all the wrong reasons. Outside of Rachel Zegler (who tries her best to deliver and deserves better roles), this is a hollow mess of a film. Shoddy visual effects, flat and cheap-looking soundstage sets, strange blocking, and a so-bad-it’s-camp performance from Gal Gadot make this an early contender for the Worst of the 2020s shortlist. Woof.

Opus is the definition of a directorial debut in its truest form. The big ideas and inventive choices are there. A lack of cohesion and clarity in the flow of the story and its message is there as well.

Why is the Dracula therapy movie also a shoot-em-up action flick and also a cop thriller and also a meet-cute romance and ALSO a film about grieving sisters?!?!? There’s waaay too much going on here, and a clear sense that there was some form of confusion regarding what kind of movie the team behind it wanted it to be. The core idea of the dynamic between Dracula and Renfield is SO fun on its own, the film just needed better execution (and script edits!!!) to really shine in my eyes.
