1992 Coming of age summer movie laced with nostalgia while managing to synthesise the tropes of its predecessors into something that feels fresh. The original score is gorgeous and the needle drops help to immerse you in the era while still presenting some left field choices that I’ll be adding to my personal playlist.

A messy fever dream of a musical. Completely inaccessible for anyone without a strong pre-existing knowledge of biblical history. Although some stronger musical numbers should help to carry it through the midsection, the mixing saps every solo performance of energy and lays bare the lyrical flaws that often plague Andrew Lloyd Webber’s work. This combined with overwrought performances even by Broadway standards make it a painful watch.
Pros: Some classic hits, progressive casting for the time
Cons: Poor editing, no clear narrative, questionable lyrics

A truly mesmerising film. Never leaning into Hollywood grandeur or cliche it focuses on the drama of intimate moments amongst family to draw you in. Understated performances from an incredible cast combined with some of the best cinematography I have seen from this years award season nominees make this a must watch.
