Lots of great ideas and a great adaptation of the story severely held back by its lack of resources.

Watching the film, it seems like everyone tried their best to deliver a good film, but ambitions outreached the budget. It could’ve easily surpassed the B-movie feel with a higher level of set design and better effects work.

I’ll still never understand the decision to cancel Del Toro’s Hellboy 3 when the studios keep trying to churn out adaptations done on…

Really too bad the film couldn’t match the opening segment between Sub-Zero and Scorpion. That’s such a wonderful opening that it hooks me in, enough so that I hope the rest of the movie will match its tone, energy, and fight choreography. It never does and disappoints throughout the rest of the film, and the potential is wasted throughout. I’ll never understand why the Mortal Kombat Legacy team wasn’t given the reigns to this remake.

Today I re-watched The Ultimate Cut with Zack Snyder’s  Vero live stream commentary.

I’m still a big fan of this film, especially the ultimate cut. I love Affleck and Cavill in the Batman and Superman roles. And I’ll forever be bummed that we never got to see the full arc the filmmakers were setting up.

Snyder’s commentary gives a little peak into where they were going with their story arcs and I always enjoy hearing him talk about his process. It was a fun listen and I’m really glad he did this.

I will never understand how this movie was given a budget.

In the first 20 minutes, every line imaginable has been crossed.

And it continues for almost 90 minutes.

It’ll always be a weird curiosity for me that I can’t tear away from, the ultimate in car wreck filmmaking.

And I can’t believe it, but this was watched on The Criterion Channel.
