Gene Hackman blows me away every time I watch.
Richard Harris is incomparable.
Morgan Freeman. Full stop.

Alien 1979
Alien is a triumph of the horror genre that is also, in its own right, a transcendent film.
The suspense, intimacy, and commentary on humanity were all so evocatively and beautifully executed by one Ridley Scott.
The intimacy of the ship and leveraging the fear of the unknown in particular had my heart literally beating faster throughout the film. I can’t remember the last time I watched a film and it had such a visceral effect on me.

Seven Samurai 1954
The greatest movie I’ve ever seen.
It’s a beautifully-woven tapestry of every human emotion cased in a film. I laughed out loud. I despaired. I felt alongside all the farmers and samurai.
To me, what Seven Samurai accomplishes both transcends and defines what film is meant to be. Kurosawa is the master of storytelling, and his ability to capture the human experience so brilliantly has me still in awe.
I’ll look forward to many rewatches in the future, and it’s become a new all-time favorite film of mine.
