A surprisingly heartfelt bittersweet family drama about coming-of-age that perhaps doesn't have anything ground-breaking to say or says anything in a unique way, nevertheless is effective and heart-warming. Partly due to some excellent performances from a stellar cast consisting of Toni Collette, Allison Janney, Steve Carrell - in an unfamiliar (for the time), yet convincing role as the protagonists mean-spirited wannabe step-dad, but the one who steals the show above all is the magnetic Sam Rockwell - a truly underrated and unrecognised performance that once again highlights his talents prior to a long overdue Oscar win for Three Billboards
