In film history, The Joker has served as an icon for chaos and violence, almost to the point of one dimensionality. Heath ledger’s Joker was just that— “The Joker” (he has no fingerprints, no record— he’s not a man, only a symbol). The women in this film are powerful, especially the portrayal of Marcielle’s mother, whom any audience member is quick to judge, but can fully understand, all from the actress’ complex performance.
