Mesmerizing art. It never stays the same but doesn’t differ from the insane, yet beautiful art style. The songs are pretty good. Especially the opening.

“Do you want to see her?”

🚬… Those ain’t rain drops falling, they’re my tears. The film takes you on a wonderful journey of life and love. Both of which aren’t fair in the slightest. The constant use of “Devant le Garage” was beautiful. The cinematography was top notch. Love the ending.

Side note: The second best use of the song would come from the episode “Jurassic Bark” from Futurama. Also, the first time seeing a movie use what would later be known as the “Spike Lee double dolly shot” was interesting. Lastly, Damien Chazelle you dog!

I find no pleasure in handing this rating out. But it deserves every bit of it. Looong. Boring. Basic. No real feeling. Too much of Leo if you ask me. Channeling a bit too much of his J. Edgar Hoover role. Lily Gladstone’s talent was wasted after the first hour. De Niro comes off as a cartoonish “Big Daddy” type character. Bit lazy with the whole thing really. Im shocked at how highly rated this film is. The best Leo/Niro movie is still “This Boy’s Life”. Is it empty? Yes. Yes it is.

What an interesting movie to watch after 2020. Hits a little too close to home with the pandemic. The more I see from Richard Widmark, the more I dig his style of acting. He can flip a switch from cool to hot in seconds. Walter Jack Palance aka Blackie plays a psychopath way too good. This being his first break out roll makes it even more impressive. I really liked this film. The tone, look and acting from everyone in it was top notch. The only thing I didn’t like was the very last scene. Still, I’d highly recommend it.
